Elizabeth Mitchell To Return As Mrs. Claus For ‘The Santa Clause’ Disney+ Limited Series

EXCLUSIVE: Tim Allen won’t be the only one suiting up as North Pole royalty for Disney+. Lost alum Elizabeth Mitchell will also return to the world of The Santa Clause to reprise her role as Carol, aka Mrs. Claus, for the streamer’s upcoming limited series. The project comes from Last Man Standing creator Jack Burditt, who serves as showrunner.

In the The Santa Clause (w/t), Scott Calvin is on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.

Mitchell first appeared as Carol in the 2002 film The Santa Clause 2. In the sequel, Allen’s character must find a Mrs. Claus to continue being the jolly, red holiday icon. In 2006 Mitchell returned for The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, where Santa deals with a conniving Jack Frost played by Martin Short.

Burditt and Allen will executive produce alongside, Kevin Hench, Richard Baker and Rick Messina. The Disney Branded Television series is a production of 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios.

Mitchell, known for her roles on ABC’s Lost and Once Upon a Time and NBC’s Revolution, recurs on the second season of Netflix’s Outer Banks and is set as a lead in the streamer’s upcoming vampire drama First Kill produced by Emma Roberts. Mitchell, who recently joined Ellen Burstyn, James Caan, and Ann-Margret in Queen Bees and starred in and produced the SXSW indie feature, Witch Hunt, is repped by Link Entertainment and APA.

The Santa Clause: Elizabeth Mitchell Returning for Disney+ Sequel Series

Elizabeth Mitchell is coming along for the (sleigh) ride.

The Lost vet is set to reprise her role as Carol — aka Mrs. Claus — in Disney+’s Santa Clause sequel series, Deadline reports. She joins previously announced star Tim Allen, who will once again suit up as Santa Claus’ proxy Scott Calvin.

The limited-run series will see Scott “on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever,” according to the official logline. “He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world — especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. With a lot of elves, children and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa, while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.”

Allen originated the role of Scott Calvin in 1994’s The Santa Clause. The family friendly film went on to gross nearly $200 million at the box office and spawned two sequels: 2002’s The Santa Clause 2 (which introduced Mitchell as Scott’s love interest/eventual wife Carol) and 2006’s The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (which featured Martin Short as Jack Frost). The complete trilogy is streaming on Disney+.

Fifteen years later, the franchise is being revived as a TV show, with Last Man Standing creator Jack Burditt tapped as showrunner. He’ll executive-produce alongside fellow LMS vets Kevin Hench, Richard Baker and Rick Messina, with production set to get underway this spring. A premiere date has not yet been announced.

Are you looking forward to seeing Allen and Mitchell reunite as Mr. and Mrs. Claus in the upcoming Santa Clause sequel series? And who else from the original film trilogy (*cough* David Krumholtz as Bernard *cough*) are you hoping to see return?

Elizabeth Mitchell joins The Santa Clause costar Tim Allen as Mrs. Claus in Disney+ series
You can’t have Santa without Mrs. Claus!

Another star from the Santa Clause movies is joining Tim Allen in the Disney+ sequel series.

Elizabeth Mitchell will reprise her role as Carol/Mrs. Claus in The Santa Clause, the working title given to the limited series set to star Allen in his beloved holiday movie role of Scott Calvin/Santa, EW has learned.

Mitchell arrived in the second movie, 2002’s The Santa Clause 2, a sequel to the 1994 original. In it, Scott had to find a suitable Mrs. Claus in order to continue in his Father Christmas role. She also appeared in the third film, The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, which introduced Martin Short as Jack Frost.

The new show will see Scott on the brink of his 65th birthday, when he realizes he can’t be Santa forever. His two kids are all grown up and he starts losing his step in his Santa duties, so he sets out to find a suitable replacement while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.

Jack Burditt, creator of the Allen sitcom Last Man Standing, is reuniting with his star and serving as showrunner and executive producer. Kevin Hench, also of Last Man Standing, will executive-produce as well, alongside Richard Baker and Rick Messina.

In addition to the Santa Clause movies, Mitchell is known for her roles in Lost, Frequency, and The Purge: Election Year. She recently appeared on Netflix’s Outer Banks and Amazon’s The Expanse.

Deadline Hollywood first reported her casting.
